As cyber-life for virtually every enterprise grows increasingly complex, there are fewer and fewer reasons for small and midsize businesses to wing it. That’s generally a good thing.

Effective June 9, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) officially did its part, as its amended Safeguards Rule went live. The Rule requires that non-banking financial institutions develop and implement a series of specific steps addressing cybersecurity—that brave new world that isn’t new as much as it is occasionally inscrutable.
